CH.03 · Behind the Camera
The person behind the lens.
I photograph people, places, and the small moments between them, and I edit every frame like it belongs in a film.
Hi, I’m Shivam Patel, a photographer working across portraits, landscapes, street, and events. I came to photography through film: the way a single frame can carry a whole scene, and the way light decides what a story is about.
On a shoot I work quietly and quickly. I direct when it helps, step back when it doesn’t, and spend most of my time watching the light. Afterwards every image is graded by hand, so a set reads as one continuous reel rather than a pile of photos.
I’m based in New Jersey and happy to travel. If you have a shoot in mind, a print you’d like for your wall, or just a question, the call sheet is the fastest way to reach me.

Director’s commentary
How I work.
Light first
I scout for light before I scout for locations. The same corner at blue hour and at noon are two different films.
Direct, then disappear
A few clear prompts, then I get out of the way. The frames people keep are usually the ones between the poses.
One grade, one story
Every set gets a single, consistent color grade, so the photos sit together like scenes from the same picture.
